FABIOLA FILM WITH PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT - Saturday 26th May at 6.00pm

Fabiola is a remarkable silent film made 100 years ago. It is a tale of ancient Rome, based on the novel by Nicholas Wiseman. Fabiola was a global bestseller, the story was widely known in Europe, a little like the tales of Robin Hood in England. Instead of outlaws, Fabiola deals with the lives and, soon after, the deaths of Christians in fourth-century Rome - Saints Agnes, Pancras, Cecilia, Sebastian. There was plenty of scope for grand cinematic spectacle, and the film is notable for crowded-street scenes. Fabiola will be accompanied on the piano by George Hetherington. There will be an introductory presentation by Professor Stefano Cracalici. RETIRING COLLECTION
